Dental assistants are so hard working. It’s such a difficult field! They deserve more vacation days and higher pay.

It’s hard auctioning when the dentist doesn’t let you see cus they’re all over with the hand mirror & high speed & gives me anxiety seeing the patient have so much water in their mouth & the dentist won’t let you suction properly cus they want to finish the procedure fast. & it’s hard to retract the tongue & auctioning at the same time & passing the instruments while retracting the tongue

OMG I just started working this week as DA and boy it's alot to keep up with, it's so different when you have to do it for real then in school, especially when they only train you for two days then they leave you in your own 😌

I'm doing my clinicals right now and working beside military doctors. It's so nerve wrecking. I have to pray and calm myself down before going in every morning.

The pen grip with HVE taxes very weak muscles, especially when trying to retract buccal tissues. Use a Jack The Ripper, stabbing grip which offers a lot of power while maintaining excellent control.

High suction disadvantages
1: unflexible
2: big siz
3: can't reach all oral area specially deep area bcs..its bulkness
4: heavy for the assistance to hold
5: bulkness
6: suctin module bulk
7: suction tips or tube rigid and almost straight
8: bending is not available

One time the dental assistant left the suction in my mouth for so long, my tongue started shriveling up like SpongeBob without water

Dentist here...when working on the patient's left side (or in general), learn to suction with a left-handed, underhand pen grip. Retraction or air/water with your right hand will help your dentist see the posterior teeth better, and your suction position will approach from the anterior (out of the dentist's field of view). Your dentist and your wrist will appreciate your new skill!

using a pen grasp is just a waste of time, use your whole hand you will have better control of the HVE and can use it better with retracting with it.

With practice you can be proficient in this skill… ugh, I wish most of the dds and hygienists comprehend this… some of them expected that the new graduates can actually excelled right away in suctioning 🙄 🤦🏽‍♀️ 😢

Wow I've been a dental assistant for 26 years this is a total Overkill I can guarantee you that not very many offices are going to make you wear a disposable gown and put sanitizer on your hands this is really ridiculous

Having a cover on the dental assistant side only isn't realistic. In reality you need it on both.

My dentist does all the suctioning and triplex, I wish I could do it looks fun. We work a little different I think. We also out all tool on the tray and have it next to him so that he grabs them himself. Instead of me handing him stuff all the time once it's already on the tray. Anyone else work like this?
