Record high in top grade A-level results

There’s something to celebrate for students whose education has been disrupted for another year by the pandemic - a record number of A and A* grades in A-levels in England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

This year's grades were calculated by teacher assessment after exams were cancelled again, as the watchdog said students had been treated fairly.

But the gap between outcomes at private and state schools has widened.

Also think it would be more rounded journalism if they also interviewed students who got less good results, to give an insight into those who struggle academically and to show it's OK and not the end of their lives.

Didn’t sit REAL 1 exam and got 3 A*’s. 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

People getting mad at this just shows how some people are expected to fail and how we as a society have grown to accept that

this year group did well, we had our learning disrupted multiple times and were the government's last priority. Congrats to all

Worth nothing in the real world.. Amazing how many uni students have an A/B in English but could barely form a legible sentence.

Congratulations to all the students this year, so many obstacles that we had to tackle. We all made it out big regardless of the grades we got

Will be interesting to see if the grades go back down once schools re-open.

Well done to all the teachers writing A* on every exam

when there is no Uber from which to eat, and mum & dad are out of sight and don't understand the difference between A levels and middle school, it's easier to succumb to hopelessness and regressive statistics, sadly.

Couldn't have something to do with having to stay IN could it?

In our school each teacher gave a student like 10 essays of work to complete as a cover for assessment and these essays were graded so technically they worked for their grades

Give everyone an A level because... feelings.

Praise effort, reward achievement. They DON'T deserve to be rewarded because there was disruption. A student who experiences a traumatic event mid-studies doesn't get given a high grade as compensation. Covid grade creep undermines all future students who didn't have this to deal with. However, these were unprecedented times. Maybe universities should simply have abandoned entry qualifications for 2 years?

Students have had more spare time to study and learn than ever in history. Yet they are still given inflated results! Makes no sense. If you can’t get a high score after 18 months of being in the house with nothing to do but study just give up.

So the youths seem to be getting smarter? Doesn't feel like it sometimes.
One consequence of the surfeit of good grades is that some unis are having to take in more new students than anticipated, and some are having to offer fee discount if students will defer their start by a year.
