Vegan red pigments are not as safe as carmine. Carmine harvesting is a sustainable source of income in low socio/economic areas. Carmine FTW.

I’d love to know what the pigment is, because while obviously they’re not going to straight up put mercury in their products, I’m still a bit hesitant considering the history of red coloring

awesome. the last thing we need to be doing is killing more bugs. i’m a millennial and i have noticed a frightening decrease in the amount of insects i see. it’s not just in my head either— since 1970, 50% of insects have completely disappeared. 😔

I'm sorry, but the death of the insects to produce carmine is seriously ridiculous to consider it as something that needs to be labeled as "animal welfare" !!!
People who say this have clearly never done proper research on the insect and process 🙄
However, the reason why it's still not a good product to use in cosmetics or food is bc of the effects it can have on the human consumer!

what’s wrong with using insects? i dont think bugs count as animals. At least the beetles would have been a natural product.

They're some sort of beetle it is found in some juices as well. I should get my lazy self over to google to link this but ❄️ day! Not working;)
