It's a female turtle and they only come on land to lay eggs! Usually they come at night. Always stay very very far away from them at this time! She was warning you away because she's trying to get up on dry land to lay her eggs! Hope it was a fun trip for your family. 😊

We have a terrible cane toad problem in Australia. I believe if you put them in the freezer, it is a fairly humane way to get rid of them. They have reached W.A. but I'm in the SW so they haven't reached here and it might be too cold for them down here? 🤞

Ahh the classic invasive cane toad. I love them but they are killing native toads by stealing shelter, food and having eggs that will kill the native toads if consumed.

I guess giving the turtle a lift to the dry sand to deposit eggs possibly was out of the question.😔
