I had sea legs. Lost them in a motorcycle crash though.

It wasn't the sea legs that I had trouble with, it was getting rid of them once ashore! 2 days of swaying back and forth!

Standing on the ground: 🧍‍♂️

Standing on a warship: _🧍‍♂️_

I'm the seasickness gettingest sailor to ever sail the seven seas. But I've never been sick on anything over 50k tons. You can most definitely feel the rolls on an aircraft carrier and pushing heavy jets uphill is no simple task.

Then there's the coast guard

Boat: *Flips upside down*

Coast guard: Just like the simulation.

The worst place is the engine room. The perfect combination for motion sickness. Loud noise, closed space, heat.

That's why you become a engineer, the salary is good too

God, when the carrier be rocking and it’s time for bed, best sleep aid without taking melatonin. So relaxing.

You know the British Victorian engineers tried to make ships with separate inside like on a pendulum to stop this

I love the movement of the ship, its the best sleep! Unless its slamming. Not much sleep when you're motoring through big seas and slamming.

I went from serving onboard CVN69 to PC4, a huge ship to a tiny ship. A rough sea state onboard a tiny ship will make _everyone_ sick.
If anyone is planning to join, my tip is to bring extra Dramamine (either patch or pills) your Doc may run out mid-underway, leaving you high and dry.

While the engine room is much lower in the ship than, say, the Bridge, and will reduce the amount of pitching and rolling, I would have to disagree with its effects. Being able to see the horizon is what helps most people recover, so good luck doing that from an engineering space!
Next best thing to do is to lay or sit down.

I have overcrowded public transport legs. Maintaining balance with a minimal footprint area while the only thing to hold on to is the handrail just a bit further away than arms length.

I was on a mine sweep and loved stair jumping. Fastest way between decks is to just jump over the entire stairway and let it catch you as it comes up. You never have to touch the stairs when the sea is choppy on a small ship. 😊

Those guys have balls. Respect to those men and women.

On any Navy ship, you'll hear a story about the young seaman apprentice who would hear announced on the 1MC "Underway shift colors", and get sick instantly. I mean, they only just cast off the lines and shifted the colors from the fantail to the mast, and the screws have yet to turn!!! Just knowing we were no longer attached to the pier was enough.

I was pretty immune - the only time I came close to losing it was working in the scullery (where dishes were washed) and the guy next to me lost it on the disgusting wet deck. But somehow I held it.

Fun fact, this is why Jack Sparrow walks all wabbly while on land. Cause of his sea legs but he will be perfetly fine on a ship.

That Army point is valid though. Not everyone is meant for the seas. Its ok. Plenty of branches will gladly take a Navy SM including the Army.

Remember, each branch has its own dynamics that make it stand out from the other.

We knew it was rough on a sub when a can of peanut butter and can of jelly were taped to a table with the bread and a sign saying LUNCH

Seeing modern massive ships get tossed around by the ocean always makes me marvel at our ancestors who took it on in a wooden ship. Then to go way back, and you're basically taking it on in a canoe. Utterly insane

Nothing like having to clean footprints off the bulkhead 3 feet up after a good storm.
