His name was actually Dandy Crow. Disney originally called him Jim Crow, but Disney felt that was too controversial, and changed it to Dandy, and the name is actually never used in the movie.

For one, the crows were up with the sun and in sound mind in their home in the tree minding their own business when they discovered the home invasion of the hung-over Dumbo and Timothy. Then they proceeded to produce a string of hilarious double-entendres put to music. They correctly concluded that the only way Dumbo could have landed in the tree was by flight and eventually helped him to gain to confidence to fly sober and with full agency.

Not everything that deals with race is meant to reflect poorly or assume some illusion about superiority or inferiority.

Reference to historical racism doesn't prove the politics of the art either. They hired black voice actors for these roles for one.
You could just as easily see the crows as heroes in this film.

Disney animator Floyd Norman said they were poking fun at how ridiculous the Jim Crow laws were

It’s just a play on words it isn’t racist

The leader of the crows’ nickname was “Jim” while his real name was Dandy, whilst the other four crows had their part of their musical number by an all black choir which was uncommon for the time.

Jim Crow is a deliberate name - the character is played by a white man just like the original character of Jim Crow in minstrel shows.

But Dumbo is a movie about breaking the chains of captivity, embracing what makes you different, and the villains of the movie are the people who run the circus. I argue Dumbo is explicitly anti-racist, it's just anti-racist in a time where racism was common place. So it has some things in it we would call racist by today's standards.

Jim Crow Was Voiced By Jiminy Cricket's Voice Actor Cliff Edwards And By Kevin Michael Richardson In Disney's House Of Mouse Edwards Was A White Man Performing A Southern Black Dialect Because Edwards Was Chosen To Voice Jim Because Of He Thing Performing Black Face In Other Shows At The Time.

But let's face it. if I watch dumbo, it is for when I see an elephant fly. They made the movie more than the elephant did.

Oh, and never forget the pink elephants

Not racist in anyway. People are so easily offended these days. If you dont like it dont watch it. Very simple. Dont ruin it for the rest of us.

They're just crows. One of them is simply Jim. The end.

I never saw this as racist. The crows were the only ones who although initially made fun of Dumbo then wanted to help him and became his friend. Not what you would expect from scavenger birds. Same with the mouse. Not a powerful or significant animal yet stood up for Dumbo and was the only one nice to him at the circus. Goes to show you that true friendships may not be who you would expect but the are genuine.

I remember those crows. Thinking back to it I didn’t see anything malicious. I guess the name was just a cheeky pun relating to the laws of the time. Looney toons itself is known for unhinged humor like suicide and gun murder, so I guess this is just apart of that cartoon cheekiness. I don’t see any racism to it unless it’s purposefully provoking people

I wish they didn’t remove the crows from the life action because I like the song and I didn’t see it as racist

These Crows were always the best part of the cartoon....never thought of them as being black or having any negative stereotype...maybe the real racists are the ones always thinking in terms of always find what you're looking for.

Did you know this is when Disney was cool. Didn’t hold back at the risk of being offensive

This is the song that doesn't end
Yes, it goes on and on my friend.
Some people started singing it
Not knowing what it was.
And they'll continue singing it forever just because

This is the song that doesn't

(keep repeating)

YES, It goes on and on my friends
