This podcast was basically just john Carmack talking for 2 hours and occasionally joe asks a question. It was great.

I never thought I'd see the day where RAGE is discussed on the Joe Rogan podcast of all places. I love living in this alternate timeline

To this day, people are still waiting for Rage engine games to load textures.

As a 90's gamer seeing these interviews where the veil is lifted on the behind the scenes is like crack for me.

Rage was the final data point that made the Carmack-Romero split so poetic. Carmack was right about Romero being high on his own farts and losing his edge. And, in the end, Romero was right about Carmack playing it too safe, putting out yet another mindless shooter with the latest prettiest graphics. If they could come back together for one final project... I don't even care if it'd suck, I just need narrative closure!

I loved how in unreal tournament 2004 when you turned your setting to max you heard a deep voice say “holy shit!”

I did love the first one. Only bad thing about it was it was very short with a horrible boring ending. I never knew they worked on it for so long as the ending seemed rushed

I always imagined by the time Rage was made, John Carmack starting to lose interest in videogames by then.

RAGE had potential to be a 10/10 game if it had a longer and more in-depth story. Everything else about it is fantastic. The gameplay is very modern and still holds up. And it's obvious that the artists put a lot of love into the environment. There's tons of little details in the settlements that make them feel lived-in. And as a Bethesda fan, the most impressive part to me is the performance. It's not buggy, doesn't crash, and doesn't lag even in very dense locations like Wellspring.

I always have seemed to be in the minority on this, but I actually really enjoyed Rage. Bought it at launch, played through it several times, enjoyed the atmosphere and the shooting in it too. Considerably underrated in my opinion.

John Carmack seems like a genuine good guy.

His insight and self-awareness is really good. I wonder what the hell some people in the game industry think sometimes of their missteps and faults. Rage wasn't even a huge one, it just kind of underwhelmed because people thought it would be this amazing GOTY type deal but by the time it dropped the industry had already seen Borderlands, Left 4 Dead 2, and Fallout: New Vegas scratch that post-apocalyptic itch. When Rage dropped it wasn't really doing anything that games before it whether it was in the same genre or not hadn't done.

I just finished Rage for the third time. This time I played it on PC and it was awesome. I've always felt that the ending was rushed and the reuse of locations for missions kept it from reaching its true potential but the atmosphere and character animation is so good.

Rage is one of my favorite games! ... except for the ending ...or lack thereof
