The city is located on the shore of the Vyborg Bay, located in the northeastern part of the Gulf of Finland. It is a major economic, industrial and cultural center of the Leningrad Region, a port on the Baltic Sea, an important junction of highways and railways.
Vyborg, founded in the Middle Ages, has been the only historical settlement in the Leningrad Region since 2010. Among the attractions are Vyborg Castle, Alvar Aalto Library, Monrepos Park.
