UK stabbings: Southport mosque runs prayers as normal after violent clashes
Показать описание
Prayers ran as normal for Southport's Muslim community on Friday, following violent clashes in the U.K. town earlier this week after three children were killed in a knife attack. The violence across England erupted in reaction to false information that spread rapidly on social media — which claimed the suspect in the stabbings was a radical Islamist migrant.
"Love will always prevail. People with hatred, they just can't win, they can't win. Unfortunately, they hate everything around them. And the problem is that they hate themselves. This is how I feel, they hate themselves," Iman and mosque chairman Ibrahim Hussein said.
"It was just through complete terror and horror that you're thinking local communities are being thrown apart, and these people from outside are coming and literally destroying the mosque,” said Muslim Council of Britain secretary-general Zara Mohammed. “The Imam from Southport said he had to barrage and lock himself within the office. They were afraid the door was going to be broken down.”
According to the Muslim Council of Britain, mosques across the country will also be on a heightened state of alertness this weekend, reviewing procedures for fire safety, security camera surveillance and protecting entrances and exits.
