Considering Rapture if literally located within the dark zones of the Ocean, the key is, there is no light, its cold, and the pressure is immense from all the water and atmosphere above. Because of this, people would have to don thick diving suits in order to sink down to the bottom of the sea floor and begin setting up foundational shafts to construct the city. Over time however, with the human form and all its flaws, an idea was hatched, incorporate the diving suit into the human form so no longer would they have to contend with the struggles of sea floor life. Thus the Big Daddies were created. The process to do so however, was less than ideal. So in todays episode, we will discuss what this process was and how it affected the person in the suit!

Bioshock was my first “scary game” but I couldn’t help but feel fascinated by its lore and the world’s science. So happy you looked into this.

One of the only situations where "big-boned" actually counts.

I love how they never show whats under the mask, you're just left to imagine how grotesquely screwed up the big daddy's body is on the inside and it's just terrifying.

"They don't use heavy equipment, they are the heavy equipment."

Wish I could be that awesome.

About bone density, bones are "designed" to break because if bone is broken energy is absorbed but joint is protected and joints are harder to repair by body than bones.

Could the Big Daddy’s constant groaning probably be a hint of them going to through constant excruciating discomfort due to their bodies being meshed with their suits?

just a reminder, that leather armor is about 2 maybe 3 inches thick. the metal plating is also likely quite thick for the unit, as for the head location, the mining ones the top view port is likely where the head is, and the other holes were for mining, drilling, and not tripping over themselves. As for the Bones, a lot of it is likely metal, and spring trap systems were made for that.

I kinda imagine a big daddy's body would be similar to what if the human body was designed to survive a car crash, but ramped up to insane levels.

I really appreciate the little humorous bits thrown in here and there. Apart from the learning experience, it's a nice touch.

The most tragic Big Daddy was Subject Delta. Poor guy randomly found his way into Rapture, was captured, experimented on and bonded to Sofia Lamb's daughter who'd become a Little Sister.

I just love everything about the Bioshock series from gameplay to especially lore. I hope to make a video on it someday as I really been enjoying your series.

the thing i loved about bioshock 2 was how attached it made me to the little sisters and Elanore i was fully ready to take care of them all since my first playthrough just through the first few interactions you have with them and Elanore. I even felt bad for the other big daddies when I had to put them down in order to free the little sisters... it was definitely a "You've done well soldier... but it's time to retire. You've done more than what anyone should have expected of you, rest now." It caught me up so much that once I beat the game I gave myself the hypno 3 plasmid so I after i saved the little sisters I could give the last big daddy something to do besides wandering around hoping to find a little sister that would never come.

I thought the multiple lights in the head port for the bouncer type were all eyes. Since the body is grafted to the suit it's possible for some after severe Adam treatments they could alter the body and organs to that severe of a degree. I remember that one guy you see in bioshock 2 who turned into this abomination after being submerged in an adam tank. Scared the bejeezus outta me

I'll never forget the audio log talking about a big daddy who'd lost his sister. Said he was kneeling at a vent crying. Talk about a hard kick to the feels.

The double bone density is super interesting. Idk if you’ve done a video on the movie Unbreakable but that was always my theory for what he’s capable of doing in the film. Not necessarily double but probably a much higher number as he walks away from a lot of severe damage without much issue. Plus his weakness to water. He’s basically incapable of swimming and water is used to incapacitate him all the time. I figure because his bones are dense. He can’t float. And that becomes a more psychological issue where he just believes his weakness is water in general. That’s why I like your videos. I love seeing the science connecting the fiction. The individual series or movies might explain them somewhat. But you always get more in-depth and it’s super cool and fun to listen to

You should totally cover the evolution of a Little Sister into a Big Sister. They were always some of the most interesting bits of Bioshock 2's lore.
