Esbit actually makes a system very much like this one but it's also designed specifically to use the alcohol stove. I love mine for two reasons. First alcohol. Second the main cup/pot that comes with that is over 900 mL and you can fit not only there stove inside the pod but if you do want to use isobutane you can also nest in 8 oz MSR canister and the MSR Pocket rocket 2 inside the pot. The lid is a 400 mL+ cup/pan as well.

They apparently do make a particular stove selling on Amazon called a 5-piece stove. This includes a brass alcohol burner.

You could use a pop can stove made to the right dimensions. I have the five piece version which comes with the alcohol burner and a platform for the fuel tabs. Fantastic kit.

Their current design works well with tablets and liquid fuel. No need for two versions now.

Some good points about the embittered, you can use twigs to cook with, and there are no moving parts to fail, as my gas stove did on one trip.and potential fuel is everywhere. Sterno that comes in bottles, fill a cat food can, anything that will burn. You could be somewhere and unable to get the gas stove canisters. I’m all about simple, light, and cheap. This is all 3.
I never understood the quick boil time arguments. You get to where you are going to camp, start water boiling then set up camp. I really don’t care if a jet boil will boil in 2 minutes, it’s bigger, heavier, and way more expensive.

I use a wind screen and a Kojin alcohol stove and I get consistent boil times for 2 cups of water at about 8-9 minutes. I love the Kojin stove, it prevents spillage and flame if it gets bumped. No alteration of the Esbit is necessary, I put the Kojin right on the tray with no issues.

It's a pretty nice setup ... if you don't use the esbit tabs. Use a small alcohol stove like the Choke Hazard Turbo stove from Tinnytrash on itsy. Just need to remove the esbit tray on the bottom. I also modified it so I could use the MBDC Gnome Turbo if you need a longer burn. Other low alcohol stoves will work fine too, and you need a windscreen!

Aw, where’s your soul?! 😁 the little Esbit cookset is perfect for overnighter, weekend trips for hot drinks, soups, noodle and the like. I love mine because there’s nothing to go wrong and it can take being dropped and sat on and stuff. One cup of water for a hot drink is 5 mins, I can live with that! 👍🏻🤗

You can always use 2 stick of metal llike a cross over the base of the system. This way you could elevate the pot enough tp get air pass under the pot. These 2 pieces of metal crossing each others should not be that complicated to make.

Have you tried feeding sticks and twigs in on top of the fuel tabs? Or a lower profile alcohol stove?

i have one of these, love but, i brought a very similar boundless voyage one, in titanium, you can also use as a twig stove.

If you cook in the evening after your hike, why have a fast boil time. I think it is excellent system.

I made a low profile soda pop alcohol stove and found it works just as well.

I would use a hole saw to cut out the whole bottom of the stove .big enough to fit the alcohol stove in.that would make the stove alcohol only but estbis suck any way and fumes are really bad

Put a computer fan grill over the top and sit the pot on it, solving your problem. Alternately use a metal mesh screen on top and rest the pot on top. Voila. 😉

I have the older editions of both the small set that uses the tablet and the larger one that uses the tablet or the Trangia-type alcohol burner. I figured out how to nest the two together in the larger stuffsack, along with four tablets, to save space in my backpack.

With a windscreen it will boil in under 10 minutes. All stove reviews should include the use of at least a make shift windscreen as any hiker/camper would use.
