I have found that if I just focus on what I already have, it is always more than enough. If I focus on what I don’t have, it is never enough.

That trying too hard part reminds me of a quote I found...."some people look for a beautiful place, others make a place beautiful." What a great saying.

Absolutely right, when you start putting less stress on situations and start caring less, life becomes much easier

I don't earn alot, I don't have friend or girlfriend. But I find the rise of mental health issue completely against my experience. Other may look down on me to be poor, no acheivement but those same people are stressed with work, stressed with debt or mortgage for their big house, car, branded goods, stressed with quarrel with significant others, some even feel life is miserable or even consider to unalive themself. Yet to me who have little, I love this life, I am in peace, I enjoyed the simple meal and occasional more expensive food. I manage to have gradually grow my saving, as I barely spend much. This life and world is beautiful for I had decided to free myself of societal expectation or other people opinion. I mainly try to practice the philosophy of Daoism, Buddhism and Stoicism.

This is on point, but with a nuance. The idea is to not care and be happy with what you have. The nuance is that to be content, you need to be in a situation where you are not starving or freezing. There has to be some sense of stability to be able to be content. The stability meaning, that your basic needs are met and then you can be happy without running after anything in the luxury category.

My teacher once said humans have an infinite desires.
If we want happiness we will decrease our needs and wants. Being content and enjoying what we have makes us peaceful.

I have a friend of mine who is completely pleasure driven, a very conventional “sheep of the herd” and thinks of me as a loser just because I decided not to follow conventions and choose my own path. He pitied on me for “having bad luck” and hence choosing the path towards learning philosophy but then I tell him that I have pity towards him because he never experienced the true beauty of meaningful suffering and never ended up discovering his true self, only ending up being an addict to substances for most of his life and having a friend group who does the same.

Things aren’t always as they appear, happiness is much deeper than material success or even good luck! ☯️

Don’t linger about yesterday or worry about tomorrow. We can’t change what happened yesterday and we don’t know what will happen tomorrow. Be present and do our best, that’s all we can control. 🙏 Sabbe satta bhavantu sukhitatta!

It’s a refreshing reminder that happiness often comes from letting go of societal expectations and appreciating the simple joys in life.

This definitely applies to me. When my friends or other relatives ask why I'm still single all these years I said: Having a family of my own will just constitute to unnecessary pressures in life therefore, I have no mental peace in that" because for me freedom and peace from existing societal pressures is the true wealth anyone can have

I really connected with the story of the hermit and his simple happiness. It reminds me that we often complicate life by chasing success, when true peace can come from letting go of those pressures. I think this is something we can all apply in our overly busy lives.

I don’t get caught up in American materialism too much. I don’t care about appearing wealthy. However, as a chronically ill person, I struggle mightily with my self perception in regards to usefulness. I’m convinced it’s my lesson to learn in this lifetime. Thanks for reminding me that my worth as a living being isn’t dependent upon my productivity or lack thereof. Have a like and a sub.

It is assuming that "rich" people are discontent, and poor people are happy. Not true. It is a state of mind. You can be happy with everything or nothing.

Gosh I love these videos. They are so calming. I feel ancient texts are so valuable, because they expose the simplistic ways of living and thinking that used to exist but don't any more in the modern world. Coming back to that is really valuable.

Followed Daoism for a period in my life. This is what I learnt -- The less you care, the greater you feel. But the downside is, the things around you fall apart more and more. The more you care, the more stress you will have, but things will be more under your control.
