Dethatching my Bermuda Lawn

Dethatching your lawn can be beneficial whenever you have a large amount of thatch at the base of your turf which blocks sun, water, and nutrients from reaching the soil layer. In today’s video I’m going to use my Ren-O-Thin Dethatcher to remove the dormant and dead grass that remained in my lawn even after my spring scalp. Dethatching isn’t a complicated process, but performing a DIY dethatch certainly is a workout! I was able to remove 5 more bags of grass clippings even though the lawn was already scalped down to .35”. Dethatching bermuda isn’t a necessary step in your spring lawn care regimen, but I wanted to thin the turf out as much as possible for the upcoming season. If you’re not interested in purchasing a used commercial model like I did, there are a couple consumer options you can find at a cheaper price point, like the Greenworks and Sun Joe Dethatchers.

That’s a sweet lookin machine. I think the verticut would be a noticeable game changer for many of us. Even thou I scalp to .25 I still have these long dead stolons covering the canopy & blocking sunlight. 😩

Fellow Stros fan, had to subscribe. Been a fan since 1980, so I lived through the 80's (except 86') and 90's years. 97', 98', and 99' were extremely rough. Kevin Brown and then those Braves guys....I forget their names...lol....just OWNED us! Hate the White Sox too cuz they kept Biggio and Bagwell from getting a ring.Those guys (and a few others) are who I made my son watch, so he could see how the game was supposed to be played. Biggio is my all time favorite player and always will be. Right along side of Nolan Ryan of course...lol. This year is starting rough, but once our offense gets going I think we'll be fine. Right now our team BA is threatening to drop below the Mendoza line, so we need to start hitting pretty damn quick! Lawn looks good. My bermuda is just now starting to green up, but no rain in a month and cool start to spring here in NW Okc. Had 3 tornado warnings and a flood advisory Saturday night and got less than a trace of rain....everything keeps going South of us! Send some rain our way please!

I scalped two days ago. I've never dethatched, or verticut, but I have a machine for this year. The problem I'm having is figuring out when to dethatch. There's so much controversy on when to. Another thing is here in North Carolina the temperature went from 80 highs and growth to several days of 40s and one night at 20. Now the soil temp is 55 degrees and no growth. Gotta love North Carolina. Any help is appreciated.

New subscriber here. I have a 85% Bermuda and a little Kentucky blue grass in the shady spot here in the very corner of South West Missouri. I'm not looking for yard of the year but I noticed a diffrence when I dethatched and irrigated last year with my little SunJoe dethatcher. My question is should I wait until Bermuda grass a woken up to dethatch it or hit it early in the Spring as it's now Mid April here in the midwest. What would you recommend?

so after dethaching you actually had to mow your lawn to pick up those clipping correct? That's how you picked up all of those clippings right? By mowing? I doubt your mower was simply vacumming up those clippings, understand what I am saying?
