I've dethatched my lawn manually with a thatch rake a handful of times over the past few years. I wanted to share some of the things I've learned along the way to help you use a thatching rake on your own lawn more efficiently.

When he said you’re gonna get extremely tired and exhausted doing this he is not joking!!! It’s euphoric exhaustion I tell ya and I don’t even use a fancy tool like he has. I use a steel rake and my freaking core

Great advice! Great video! I raked 30 minutes each day my entire yard took about a week. It was hard work but Im better for it. It was good cardio and strength workout free no gym. My lawn is in better shape and so is my body!
Was going to buy the Sunjoe but decided not to because this is better for my health.
Didn't wear gloves the first day and learned a good hard lesson---wear gloves!!!!

One of your best and simplest videos as it goes into details on how to use the rake, the different sides of the rake, and when not to use it. And I love the kids using scientific methodologies about which pile is larger. Love that.

I can't thank you enough for this video. It was just what I needed to learn how to use the thatch rake I purchased recently. The video is straightforward and to-the-point and overall, very, very helpful. Thank you for making the video.

You are correct, it's hard work. It takes a lot of patience and my lawn had not been dethatched for many years and is about 5000 sq ft. I have heard a about those electric Green Works dethatch machine's, one of those might be less work

Rocking that groundskeeper 2. Sitting on about .7 acres. Man I dethatched threw some tall fescue down and some gypsum for the dead clay spots. Sprouted in 4 days. New home owner doing a renovation

Thank you for the information, I have a huge problem with dead grass with burr weeds.

I love my thatch rake and groundskeeper 2 rake to use in tandem on small areas. I typically go with my electric dethatcher in the fall since those rakes are a workout 😂

Groundskeeper II is the best multi tool I own. I use it more for other things than just dethatch.

There is something so satisfying about this 😂. Thank you for the insight!

Great videos. Especially for those of us who do not have a vehicle to transport a motorized dethatcher. And for those of us who also enjoy working with our hands. A question I have is, why does fescue not need to be detached? Just curious.

Interesting. I have never seen that particular type of rake. Works well. I plan to start my dethatching this week with the Sunjoe dethatcher. Even with the battery machine it is a ton of work, so I'm breaking it into sections this year.

I have the thatching rake he’s using in the video. It’s super labor intensive but works great. Is it reasonable to use this as a “deep clean” and using a groundskeeper rake for the in between rakes? Is this a every time I mow task or once in a while?
