Barbenheimer is the cultural event of 2023, glad that I caught both movies in theatres, though not on the same day. You can always count on Tom Hanks to give a charming performance in an otherwise forgettable movie.

The “Barbie is anti-man” comments are so funny because Barbieland is literally meant to be a reversal of our society… Barbie getting to go on the hero’s journey while the male love interest is sidelined is a clear commentary on our society and the arcs we always see in movies. The only difference is Greta actually took time to develop the Ken lol

Karsten should make merch that says “ask me what I watched this month”

Personally, the highlight of my July was seeing the one scientist who looked like Karsten in Oppenheimer

Barbie is a literal Rorschach test for everyone that sees it. Which is so weird because it's one of the least subtle movies I've ever seen. (Not a dig btw, art doesn't have to be subtle to be great)

'Summertime' being your first Katherine Hepburn film seems statistically impossible, that is *_WILD_*

Saw Close at a film festival last year, never heard so much sobbing in a movie going experience than that. Excellent film but it's too heartbreaking to rewatch often.

I watched Close at an early screening at a small festival.
I don't think I remember this much crying around me during any other cinema visit.

The movie "A man called Otto" was actually based upon a movie called "En mann ved navn Ove" which is the swedish film that was originally based on the book. Its one of my favorite movies ever just because of the main character actors performance, I suggest you watch it! It's got a lot of heart.

The original Swedish version of a man called Otto, is a so much better version than this “remake”. If you don’t mind subtitles I highly recommend it. (It is called “En man som heter Ove”)

If you haven't you should give the original swedish version of "a man called Otto" a try. I haven't seen hollywood's depiction so I can't compare, but the swedish film "En man som heter Ove" is very charmful and quite brutal emotionally.

The reason the kens were ignored by barbies because it was symbolism for what has happened in the real life. Women started with almost no rights and they were ignored, but they had to build themselves up. The Kens represent the women in the real world, and the narrator literally said that at the end of the movie. The Kens have to slowly rise up as equals to Barbies in the Barbie World. Anyone who says that Barbie is "anti-men" hasn't seen the whole movie or didn't notice the message it literally tells you.

Barbie has really grown on me as I've sat with it, I really admire how clever it is while still being a fun time. Also, glad that True Romance is getting some love, one of my favourite movies with Tarantino's name attached to it.

I saw three new movies in July:
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - 7/10, I actually really liked it.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One - 9/10, loved it.
Oppenheimer - 9/10, probably the best movie of the year so far in my opinion.

I rewatched "Drive" at a late screening and beforehand, I forgot how amazing it was! The score, the performances, the direction, it's just amazing. It felt as if I was reading a slick graphic novel. And yeah, Albert Brooks not getting nominated for an Oscar for his work there is PURE BLASPHEMY.
