Neil Young and Promise of the Real perform "Heart of Gold" at Farm Aid 2017 at KeyBank Pavilion in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, on September 16.

Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

Farm Aid's performances are donated by the artists in order to raise funds and raise awareness for family farmers. They've raised their voices to help — what can you do?

This is one of my mom's most favorite songs and my eyes well up with tears so easily every time I hear it. I credit my mom with so much of my musical knowledge and Neil is one of those artists who really stood out to us and whose music we always held above so many others'. He has most definitely impacted my life deeply and now that I've lost my mom suddenly and at too young of an age I cherish his work even more. His songs remind me of my time with her and help me feel connected. I feel so incredibly lucky that I've had the chance to see him perform.
