If you’re an FF7 fan like I am, I’m sure you love Sephiroth’s super-long katana. But such a gigantic katana couldn’t have existed in real life right? …Well actually, it did! And it’s even longer than his Masamune.

Meet the Hajya-no-Ontachi, a 3.45m long katana made during the Edo period and now owned by a shrine in Yamaguchi prefecture. Yamaguchi prefecture was where the Choshu clan used to be, the clan that first led the revolution to overthrow the Shogunate during the Meiji restoration. To wish for a peaceful society under the Emperor, they created this huge katana and named it the Hajya-no-Ontachi, which means “The Evil Crushing Great Katana.”

Who was able to handle such a gigantic katana?? The answer is… no one. This katana was created as an amulet and was not meant to be used by anyone. If you have a chance to come to Japan, I hope you can visit Yamaguchi prefecture.

you are a Final Fantasy 7 fan?! This is my absolutely favorite game. I also wondered about his katana. This wasn't normal that only he had such a long blade. Now I learned a very interesting fact.

I guess it can be wielded somehow. Just imagine this thing as an execution instrument. Beheading shogunate with a 4-meter long katana is such a badass move 💀
