I think a lot of people playing the Englund gambit weren't really trying to gambit, they just expected e4 and automatically played e5.

I’ve been playing this line against the Englund for years. It instantly kills all of the traps and white is +1 by move 5

There’s also a trap where you play like a dummy and place a bishop to guard the pawn, you block the queens check with knight and then when they take the bishop you fork the queen and c7

Interesting: I like Bg5 and allowing the line to continue the way they *think* is best. Very satisfying knowing with best play it's +2 or better.

When white goes d4, o generally go for the englund but in the hopes to get the intercontinental balistic missile with the queen. If white doesnt fall for it, the game can go on without much problem

I tried to learn the Englund for a bit but even if they move the bishop and you get what you want, the most natural moves refute it. Had more success with other challenges to the london
