---

For the final episode in this series the painting is reassembled both structurally and with respect to the image. Care is taken to preserve the previously hidden inscription and the retouching is executed with reversible materials in a manner that's more respectful of the painting. And after all the work we finally see what General Hamilton looked like standing proud in his battle armor for his grand portrait.

the number of plot twists in the restoration of this painting is almost equal to the number of staples that had been used to secure the painting to the stretcher

Ok, anyone else interested in hearing from Julian about his "oops" moments, and how he fixed them....and what the client had to say? I would also love a reaction video when the client receives the "transformed" painting!

Julian: "this stretcher is not square." **Fixes**
Painting: **isn't square**
Julian: "I- oh.."

Julian: " ... a technique called BRIDGING."
Everybody: Belgian Linen!

Don't be shy, tell us about you gluing a painting to the hot table

Pro tip:

Staples are not the preferred choice when repairing paintings, OR babies. In a pinch though, Washi Kozo can be used as an expensive diaper. Probably want to refrain from varnishing babies as well.

I like how it went from:
Part 1 “Conserving Prince George”
Part 2 “Conserving Prince George?”
Part 3 “Conserving General Hamilton”
It just goes to show why all the background info and research is important, as well as all the info you find on the painting as well✨

Me: You didn’t apply an isolation layer!
Julian: Attentive viewers may have noticed I didn’t apply an isolation layer.
Me: *proud noises*

Imagine coming back a few hundred years later and now _everybody knows_ your portrait was painted crooked _this whole time._

the thing with the stretcher is like when you're doing eyeliner and mess up one side so you have to mess up the other side to match

Predicting when a Squarespace sponsorship is coming in Julian's videos is a thing for me now.

We should all be praying to the patron saints of Belgian linen and cotton buds for their contribution to this channel.

The world is scary and falling apart. School is stressful. I come on YouTube to choose an old baumgartner video to chill out before bed, and I am blessed by a brand new video. Thank you Julian, for making the world a little bit more bearable right now.

"There are many ways to secure keys in place. I really don't have an opinion one way or the other on which is be- actually. I do. I think-"

I was gonna say, Julien...

Julian: Does that make sense?
Me: Eveything you say makes sense.
