I'm using Takamine G240 RS with D'Addario EZ (11-52) 85/15 Bronze. Recorded with Audix i5 and Roland UA-55. No processing were used on tracks!

Like the Dunlop tone pick, as well as the tortex 3, would be a good choice for mellowing out a tele, strat etc. Or bright guitar.. excellent comparison!

Great video. Very informative!

The Graphteq Bright was the only offender of the group. The high strings sounded atrocious. The Warm and Deep versions of this pick might be better though.

The Utex/Ultem material are my faves. Great tone (which you can also get from others) but it's gripiness makes it an all-star. The fact that it comes in a triangle form for my big thumb makes it all the better! It's an all-rounder #1.

Tortex TIII has the best tone to my ears, I tried ultex but it sounds a bit dead, at least to my ears

Thanks for this! I'm terrible at playing around with effects and tools but this video demonstrated some useful differences between the picks in a really clear manner.

nice comparison, and great playing.

I found the first three similar, with my favorite being the ultex. I have one ultex sharp .73 that I just love, so it's no surprise. Definitely going to be picking up some more.

Did anyone else not really care for the TUSQ one?

I like the tonepick best for picking, but the Tortex 3 best for strumming. Tortex 3 best overall, because it is close to the tonepick for picking. As a relatively new player, though, I worry about a thickness of 1.5 being too rigid for me. Have been playing with an Ultex .73 so far.

Just found this video. I had been playing tortex picks since 1990, but have always wished it didn’t chirp during the attack when it first hit the strings. I bought a variety pack tusq picks a couple months ago, and really loved the extra volume and chimey tone, but they still chirp when I use them. Just had someone give me two ultex picks a couple weeks ago, and I have a new favorite! Going to try the Dunlop Primetone next, since I just found out they’re made from ultex.

I find the best sound being somewhere between Ultex and Tortex III, perhaps i would keep the Ultex for strumming and the Tortex III for picking. (But i am a fan of Dunlop Gator)

What is the difference between the tortex 3 and the tortex jazz 3 XL vs the dunlop flow . They look very similar

Seems that I'll always end up back with Tortex 0.6mm. I tried the Ultex 0.6mm due to the Tortex tip fast wear rate. I liked the feel of the Ultex; grippy, sounded good and much, much lower wear rate. That was, I liked it until the tip snapped clean (sharp) off the Ultex after only a couple of hours use. Too brittle I suppose. Oh well back to the Tortex, I get through them too quickly as the tip wears so fast. Any suggestions?
