My wife and I watched this and loved the style of it, John: your chatty, informative commentary without a hint of self-importance. Thanks very much, John. We've watched quite a few of yours and they're all good.

I'm writing this for my mother who is 88, born and bred in Leytonstone, moved out in 1968 to the Kent coast. She has enormously enjoyed your YouTube walks and would like to thank you for them. My grandparents lived in James Lane opposite Whipps cross hospital. My mother learned to swim at the old hollow ponds lido. An old family friend Eric Prior now passed away was in charge at Claybury and wrote a history of it in two books, his widow Dorothy is still alive we think. My mother has an old friend still living in Leyton, like many of that generation may not be aware of your channel but will be delighted I think to watch the videos and reminisce

Thank you, John. My family and I moved to Leytonstone almost 11 years ago. I was so happy to find this today. I love Leytonstone and am so grateful to live here. There is so much kindness in the community. I wish you every continued success.

I never thought I'd say this but you actually make me miss the place ever so slightly, just ever so! The history and the ghosts are never ending around there, a fascinating place to research and explore.

Thank you John for your videos on Leyton and Leytonstone. I live in Los Angeles but was born in Ilford, lived on the Woodford Avenue. My parents were brought up in Leyton in Warren Road and Beaconsfield Road. Have fond memories of not only Leyton and Leytonstone but attended Woodford County High School for Girls so spent much time in Epping Forest on walks . My father became the organist at St Luke's Leyton for many years and later organist at St Barnabus Church in Woodford. My father attended Leyton County High School for Boys and my mother attended Ruckholt Secondary School. My great aunt was on the board of governors of Leyton County High School and her husband was on the Leytonstone council. He had a block of flats named after him : Cyril Underwood . I wonder whether the block of flats still exists? Keep up the good work. Quite refreshing these walks during our lockdown.

Thumbs up from me John . Whipps cross road for me as a kid had mixed memories, the infamous hospital meant lots of visits planned and unplanned for me and my family, the cattle roaming along the road and onto the flats !, and what was known as the “ Giants den” which in reality is the railway cutting that runs under the green man . Stay safe . Richard .

Lived here for a year back in 2015. Didn't have much time to see the sights but the few memories I have are something I cherish.

Lovely, John! I do love those walks around the flats. It's like being out in the country, guess it is really. I love the walk from Hackney marshes as it winds its way up to Walthamstow. So many great spots!

Watching these Leytonstone vids has jogged my memory about a strange phenomenon of the late 70s when I lived on Dyson Rd. Cows used to graze on the flatlands next to Hollow Ponds (in the heatwave of 76' they ambled on the arid beds of the ponds themselves) and now and again they'd cross Whipps X Rd defying heavy traffic and come moo-ing down Dyson and neighbouring streets causing much hilarity among the kids.

Drove past "the stone" hundreds of times - but never noticed it! Will definitely look out for it next time. Thanks John. Keep up the good work.

Thank you John. I enjoy these so much, an oasis of calm in a crazy world. I originate from that side of town, it's so great to go back there and learn about the place.
