In this short turorial, I present the basic parts of an agle grinder and the basic discs for the different jobs.
There are discs for cutting and for grinding and also for other jobs such as cutting tiles or wood.
Different discs are fitted differently, especialy with the top washer that secures the discs in place. Cutting discs are thinner and need the washer to be placed upside down, while the grinding discs are thicker, and need the top washer to be placed normaly.
One important aspect is the protective guard for the disc, which needs to be in place almost all the time, to protect our eyes and clothes from hot metal particles, and the other thing is the goggles. Never cut without goggles, because small metal particles are a pain in the butt to remove, and you'll most deffinately need an eye doctor in case you have a metal piece fly off into your eye.
Trust me, it's not a pleasant experience. Plus the doctor will relieve you of a respectable amount of money to fix your eye.
So always wear goggles when cutting, and keep the disc guard in place.
Very seldom will you need to remove the guard.
Always keep the grinder firmly in your hands, be careful of the cord so as not to damage it while cutting, and make sure the hot sparks fly off at a direction that they won't harm you or others.
Secure the piece you want to cut, either on a vice or on the ground on top of a couple of wooden sticks, so that the point of cut will hang out, free to fall after cutting. Never cut in the middle of two wood sticks, because you'll damage the disc, and maybe hurt yourself.
WARNING :
The angle grinder makes sparks, and to the eyes of small children, these look like fireworks, and they think it is a toy.
ALWAYS KEEP CHILDREN AWAY FROM MACHINERY LIKE THIS.
Small children don't realy understand the use of such machinery, plus they don't have the necessary hand power to handle them. If you want to teach your kids how to use machinery like this, the kid will need to be at least 10 y.o., maybe a bit older, so that it will have the proper hand power to lift and manipulate the grinder, and they will also have the mental ability to understand how machines like this work.
