Another thing that is often overlooked is the amount of poop they produce. Chinchillas are absolute poop machines and even though it has no odor I quickly needed to adapt to cleaning after them constantly. It is way more than other small animals produce and they often kick it out of their cage.

I have a chinchilla and a French bulldog they play together. The chinchilla is about 4 months older than the French bulldog. I would say its pretty easy to take care of them as long as you have the right cage and I have used a litter pen with rabbit training sand underneath the wood shaves and she usually goes there so I can clean it morning and night and it keeps it cleaner in the cage. Also in the summer I put marble slaps in the shelves instead of fleece so they can keep cool.

The wheel right at the start of the video is too small for a chinchilla - it should be 16" and also shouldn't be plastic

Don’t ask if they’re good pets, ask yourself if you’re a good owner.

Whenever someone tells me “you know this pet is pretty high maintenance” I just look at them dead in the face and say “yeah well I have sugar gliders so unless it’s a chimpanzee you’re not gonna phase me” 😂

Chinchillas seem easy! I don’t want them but think they’re really cute and will defiantly want them someday!

A chinchilla is like a weird squirrel. I've had both. Rabbits are smart. So are chins

They have fragile bones apparently and aren't suitable for young kids. Also an expert told me they get very sick in heat . Excess heat can kill them .

A 16” diameter wheel is a must. Anything smaller causes spine issues.

I know I saw another comment mention the temperature should be kept lower than 70 degrees, is there a specific temperature? My house is usually set between 65 - 68, so I wanted to know if that was a good range or if I should acclimate myself to something lower 😅

They are amazing pet but I suggest you to get a cage with a mat so you can just pick up the mat and dump it out and put it back in it’s easier

The most important thing is the heat.

My girl has had multiple heat strokes. We live in south Florida. They need to stay below 70 degrees, especially when running around.

The vet bills are exponential as they age. My chinchilla passed away from old age this year and i have to reccomend any other pet if you have a job that exceeds 4 hours a day and do not own your own home.
