I don't think I've ever enjoyed so much schadenfreude at a film bombing. Evans getting the most laughs isn't surprising. He seems to be a genuinely nice guy with plenty of charm, so watching him embrace a bad guy role is fun to watch... usually.

I've enjoyed this fella's stuff since his TGWTG days. It's a great injustice he's not seen even half a 100k subs up to now.

I'd hate to have drunk from the wrong bottle on set.

I actually thought from the trailer Dwayne WAS going to have that straight faced but optimistic characterization you described and I’m surprised that’s not what they went with. I think something like that can be comedy gold as seen in Airplane!

Also, I can’t remember the name but there is a horror novel I came across recently that does take advantage of that one power you mentioned.

And Matthew said Bad Movie Beatdown was gone forever. He brought it back for a bad Christmas movie like in the old days.

Dwyane Johnson doesn't feel like he's moved with the times in recent years and feels stuck in the 2010's -Black Adam was damaging to his brand [as he went from hyping himself as the new face of the DCU to being swiftly fired when it underperformed] and crawling back to Fast & Furious when that's outstayed it's welcome [with the next film confirmed to be the last] doesn't help. Bautista is certainly the more versatile wrestler turned actor but I would like to see Johnson step out of his comfort zone going forward [like doing a more dramatic role or playing a bad guy] as he feels like he's entering later Arnie territory at the moment.

So soon after the pitch meeting video was posted so good timing Matthew!!!!😂

So basically, Chris Evans is having fun reinventing himself playing an arsehole while the Rock is stuck playing the big cool buff badass.

Apparently this was originally intended as a streaming exclusive [like Johnson's 'Red Notice'] but was changed to a theatrical release [probably due to the size of the budget]. Given this will mainly end up being put on to keep kids busy at Xmas, the tonal shifts and general uninspired nature of the film doesn't bode well. This is meant to be a franchise starter [like most of Johnson's projects] but I'd be surprised if we get 'Red Two' . Certainly disappointing given how surprisingly entertaining the Jumanji films were [my parents in there 50's really enjoyed them which speaks to there universal appeal].

Thanks for the review, Matthew. I was curious about seeing this movie. Now I know whenever I do see it, keep my expectations on low side.

Don’t we love it when the advertised Polar Bear is barely in the film.

Thank goodness for the Krampus world with the makeup.

Kinda funny that Violent Night, the R-rated gory action-comedy Christmas movie feels way less cynical than this slop

The power to be able to hear people saying her name kinda feels like it was stolen from Harry Potter. They didn’t add it to the movies but in the books we found out that if you said Voldermorts name he could sense it. That’s one of the reasons they didn’t want to say his name.

honestly, i liked this one - i went in expecting it to suck, and got a weird pastiche of '80s action films, a Hallmark channel film, a holiday movie, and some beautiful effects, and i just had a lot of fun with it - if i went in expecting it to be good i would have been disappointed

it's a kid's movie that doesn't insult it's audience, but it doesn't really know if it's just for the kids or the parents

ultimately it's forgettable with no memorable, quotable lines and will never be a classic, but i'd show it to my friends at a holiday watch party with the forewarning that it's not great, but it is fun

Sounds like if I want a Christmas themed movie with a hint of adult humor, I should stick to Spirited. At least that one has some nice musical numbers.
