After latest update of Photoshop, I am getting this error message. Not always, but about 50% cases of saving file ends with this. Solution is to try save again (sometimes it saves file after 10 attempts). Its really annoying.

I have updated Windows 10, updated all Adobe products. I have a lot of free disk space. This issue started right after updating Photoshop to latest version.

I was working on a large psd and hadn't saved in about an hour. Got the error message and it wouldn't work no matter what format I tried to save to. I tried duplicating the file contents to a different file, using a different file name... Then I decided to try switching my mode from 8 bits/channel to 16. I was able to save it. Then I converted it back to 8 and I had no issues after that.

I hope somebody finds this workaround useful.

I've gotten this error quite a bit and I'm still not sure what causes it, but another solution I found is to Hide all the layers. A quick way to do this is to select all the layers, throw them into a single group, and then Hide the group. Once they're all hidden you can save. Open the file back up, make everything visible, and you're good to go again.

Probably another fix is to just 50 bucks on some ram if you're not already maxed out. I'm suspect this happens because PS has a ton of complex history held in ram and can't dredge up enough to save the file. By making it 8 bits you're freeing up a lot of memory... it's exponential, 16 bits reserves room for trillions of colors rather than millions. This is the expense of possibly losing some colors that are outside the usual 8-bit range. But many images never go outside that range anyway.
