"The cold ocean water around Antarctica flows north to mix with warmer water from the tropics, and its upwellings help to cool both the surface water and our atmosphere. Yet the fragility of this regulating system is now threatened by human activity." From "Captain Cousteau, " Audubon (May 1990):17.
Paraphrasing
According to Cousteau Antarctic a cold reservoir plays an important role in balancing climate. He also discussed the mechanism by which Antarctica balances the climate. The cold water present beneath the ocean replaces the warm water at the tropical region and thus this cold water cools surface as well as the atmosphere.  He alarmed about the activities of human that could destroy this regulating system.
