Other musicians often forget that the drummer is the heart of the band. Without a decent drummer, everything else suffers.

Having been a drummer, bassist, and keyboardist in different groups, I can definitely say that drummers are most often highly underrated. If the keys make a mistake it’s seldom noticed. If the bass makes a mistake, it’s often sensed that “something was off”, but most people can’t figure out what it was and you can make a quick recovery. If the drummer makes a mistake everybody from childhood to geriatric hears it and it messes up the whole feel. Sometimes, if the musicians aren’t very experienced, it can derail an entire performance.
