Thank you! This is the best video yet on rigging twin wheel pulleys. Every other one wants to show me theory and use drawings or separate pulleys in tandem. Bravo! Ten thumbs up!

After the last passthrough, you need to attach the rope to the knot (or to a hook/loop you fashion) at the top of the first pulley instead. The way you did it, you are only using three pulley wheels instead of four.

Thanks for the video! However, if I'm not mistaken, the setup that you demonstrate would decrease your load by 66%, not 50%, since you're distributing the weight among 3 cords. So your 60 kg stone effectively becomes 20 kg. Furthermore, if, instead of tying off the knot on the bottom pulley (which is effectively utilizing only half of that pulley), you brought it back up and secured it to the support rod to which your upper pulley is attached, you'd be using FOUR cords to support the load, and your 60 kg stone would now be 15 kg!

You sound so much like Alan Rickman! What a cool voice. I envy you. Unfortunately, I sound like a dork. Upvoted!

The system you set up there would reduce a 60kg load to 20kg. 3 ropes between pulleys = 1/3 weight.

Sorry, Felix, you got it wrong. You are only using three of the four pulleys so it's a three fall tackle, not a four fall tackle. 3:1 advantage, not 4:1. Because those washing line pulleys only reeve one side - the side with the eye - you need to contrive another anchor for the rope. You could run the rope up to the main suspension. It'll work just as well.

Another point of order - you don't have to do knots tight, you just have to do them right. Without going back and watching like a hawk, I don't think the knots were up to much, either. The thing about a good knot is; you can untie it again, quite easily. A multiplicity of "easy" thumb knots (or Overhand knots) can be a knightmare to untie after any load has been applied. Sorry to be a grouch, but we Scout Leaders have standards.

Your calculations are wrong. If you're using 3 ropes, your advantage is 3:1, not 2:1. Lifting a 60kg load will require only 20kg of force, not 30. It's a pretty simple formula.
