Hi, I'm Chuck Coulter. I'm a physician assistant. I'm a PA with the Norton Heart Rhythm Center. We take care of patients that have abnormal heart rhythms and weak hearts that require pacemakers or defibrillators. I've been a PA for about 25 years. I was a PA when there weren't PAs. I have a background in cardiology, pulmonary critical care medicine, and emergency medicine. I really enjoy cardiology. Before I went to PA school, I was a high school chemistry teacher, so I really like to teach. I like being a PA because it gives me extra time with patients. I think educating and teaching patients about what's wrong with their hearts gives them comfort so that they feel more comfortable about what's wrong with them and what we might offer them in regards to making them feel better and making them feel safe.
My background in emergency medicine and pulmonary critical care medicine is, let me see people that are really sick. I can oftentimes figure out what's going on with someone quickly, offer treatments and treatment plans, get other services involved to help with whatever's going on with a patient in regards to a crisis type situation. Oftentimes, patients don't feel well, so they are scared about how they feel. And a lot of times educating them on what's going on is helpful in regards to fixing the problem. If it is truly a life-threatening emergency, I've got a history of being able to identify these things and then get the people and the medical professionals involved in whatever resources are available to me to take care of that person.
I am from Lincoln County, Kentucky. I'm a new person in Louisville, Kentucky. I love anything outdoors. My wife and I scuba dive, we camp, we like to hike, I like to fish, I like to Turkey hunt, and I am a single engine VFR private pilot, so we like to fly regionally to go to different places and do things. If somebody broke in my house and stole my television, I probably wouldn't notice.
