Chris, thanks alot for explaining this task. My 15 year old son and I just dropped our 60 bug body back on to our restored pan. Everything worked out fine. We did this in our garage and used everything you said we needed. Took us about three hours but that was just because we went very slow. Thanks again!!!!

I use a straight edge razor blade to do any trimming or cutting. The hole punch you can also get them at Harbor freight.

This is awesome! Thanks for the tip! I just bought a 66' today and ned to redo the right pan, so I figured since I'm doing one side, I may as well do both. I haven't built a bug since high school (12 years ago) and even then I just did mostly cosmetic stuff. Most of what I have leaned as far as heavy work was from youtube videos including this one!

When punching the holes use the end grain of the timber to punch against.

well the 57 i bought it just the shell it rust less but it came with no pan. i have a friend that will sell me a 55 pan but i want a 57so i was thinking of putting it on my 67 bug pan since the 67 need lots of work on the shell from the inside...

Hey Chis - I want to put my body back on the chassis temporarily.  Don't really want to put metal on metal, but need to move the body and chassis together to another work space and they have to be mated in order to do so. I thought if I put the gasket on it would get smashed and not be useful again when I actually bolt the body back on.  Thanks

If the belly pan in rusted through, where do i find new ones? Or at least decent looking ones? Is it possible to remanufacture it with sheet metal?

You said you had replaced the floor pans, did you have a problem with the floor pan holes not lining up with the body holes since it was an after market floor? Please respond.

Chris, I've got a project I'm working on myself and the next step is securing the body to the pan(after cleaning the dust off of everything.) I'm seeing that I need these body shock pads/body mount pads, and I'm not sure how many I need.. I'm seeing 10mm/17mm, some people are saying to use 2x 10mm.. So this is resulting in conflicting information. Any help would be of great assistance. How many would you recommend for each the front and back and what width? Oh! And if it makes a difference on anything, it's a 72' Standard.
