It's a little chilly on this Christmas morning, but nothing like Dec. 25, 1980. We sent Storm Field out into the bitter cold that day to interview shivering New Yorkers. Merry Christmas from all of us at Channel 7 and the Eyewitness News Vault.

Christmas 1980 was particularly cold in NYC because John Lennon was killed on Dec. 8.

I was 18, and wow, do I remember that Christmas! And just over 2 years later I would meet my future wife, and we would marry a few after that. We are still happily married today.

Wow, John Johnson, in rare form, I had no idea that his wife cheated on him with Donald Trump. My condolences to Storm Field on the loss of his father Frank, as of the posting of my comments.

i had a mad crush on him while living in NY. he announced that he was appearing at some event on a SAturday and I went to Central Park and found the "tent" where the thing took place. He caught my eye and came right up to me. I was so gobsmacked I couldn't even look at him. I think I crawled away.

I may be young, but I used to watch Storm Field on Channel 9 when I was a little girl. When I look at this archived newscast, which was 17 years before I was born, I never knew that he was a New York heartthrob back in his Channel 7 days.

He was so hot, in the 70s he had 2 contests during his radio forecasts giving away personalized umbrellas first & then scarves later (which he called mufflers) to listeners who sent in postcards. First I won an umbrella, then pretended to be someone else & won a scarf. Once I was in the middle of a one-nighter in Manhattan & realized I had left my Storm Field Umbrella in the club & i jumped out of bed (before we were done!) & rushed back to the club which had just closed, but i kept banging on the door until they opened up & gave my umbrella back. let's see Christmas of 1980 where I live , here in Florida my hometown of Plant City I just looked at a history almanac & the recorded tempature was 48 for the low & 68 for the high so no it was not bad like it was in NYC, but I was 6 years & I thought it was cold, but the coldest Christmas I can remember here was Christmas day 1983, it was about 37 for the high & 24 for the low, it used to get cold here in the 80's when i was a kid

This was my parent’s first Christmas together. I remember them telling me that it was so cold that Christmas night they decided to stay at my grandparent’s house (Father’s parents) in Queens then drive back to their apartment in Wallington, NJ.
