Wish I had heard this 10 years ago before I started recording my band

I can't even put into words how much this video sums up the past two years of my ife

This is so true.. I'm guilty of working on the same thing and never finishing it.

Really appreciate this one, Jordan. Something I've been massively struggling with lately- accepting that I need to move on from a mix and stop trying to tweak my way to perfection. Now, onto the next video.

This is very true. Right from committing to the tracks (Guitar tone, drum pattern, drum sample), to keeping on tweaking mixes has pushed out my work a lot of times!

In fact, there have been times when I realised that my last mix was way better than the mix after some tweaks I made. Even if I had a back up project, it would still mean that I'm unable to decide!

This video was very helpful, thanks JV.

Someone should build a plugin that destroys your project and all the recorded audio at a certain date that you set beforehand, like an alarmclock

Great video - huge agree with deadlines and accountability. My mix quality and mental health both skyrocketed once I started allocating a fixed amount of time for each mix I work on. Anything past 6 hours is unpaid overtime, so that's when the mix is done! Part of getting better is knowing how to work faster.

Good advice as always, I was like this about 18 months ago, (only started home recording just over 2 years ago) but then I thought get something out there, and it's true I can tell a big difference between my mixes then and now and I can get a basic mix ready a lot quicker these days, hoping one day to mix things for other people

Fucking needed this man! Here's to being accountable and making goals happen for ourselves. Nobody else is gonna do it for us! Hell yeah fuck yeah!

When I was using my tascam 8 track tape recorder into a Mackie mixer, also getting a boss BR1600. It seemed easier to finish a song. I guess I got my first DAW in 2017, and you are right. I tweak and tweak, and tweak some more. Sometimes i feel like I get a good mix, then sometimes I'm like what the hell. It can be very frustrating.

Funnily enough, I spent the whole day thinking about why I couldn't finish my mix and boom, I got an email with the link to the video

Great Video Jordan I have that same problem, adding something else. My problem is I have to 'Hear That Sound' kind of like Glenn Miller did. He had to find that sound to make his music work.

I'm always benefiting from this channel.
Today you told me a very difficult but important story.
But I have a question.
It's an important point to focus on, but...
Beginners like me would rather say, "Is this okay?"
Or "When does it end up with a good mix?"
I don't think I can finish it because I always think of questions haha.
Anyway, thank you.

It's even worse for me. I tweak one song's mix, then go back and apply the same tweak to the other 3 songs that aren't out the door! UGH! And double worse, I set due dates just like this at work all the time and I know it works! What the heck is the matter with me? As usual, good information here thanks.

The only time I've set a deadline my mix s*cked! It was my worst one. However, I'm sure this works for real professionals

My biggest problem is with the bands whose song/album I finished, but they them self don't have a deadline... so they will keep asking for an unnecessary revisions for the next month or more, and usually stupid things like "maybe we should pull the guitars down by 0.3db" or "can you brighten up a hihat, but only a tiniy bit"... or "you know what... can you please pull the guitars back by 0.3db actually". I do these revisions because I'm still trying to spread a word about my studio, and it's usually local guys that give me this kind of trouble. Also it's usually these minor changes so it's like, fine, what the hell. But It sucks not to actually finish and be done with it.
