Learn German Lesson 40 - "Giving Directions | Wegbeschreibung

In Lesson 40 you will learn how to “Give Directions” to a stranger or ask for them yourself, especially when you are in a new city and looking for a place.
It is advised to watch the video of “In der Stadt” to know the names of various places you can find in a city. Follow the link given below to reach this video.
You will be learning the various terms for giving directions, such as Left and right (Links und Rechts).
There will be many phrases which will also give you an idea of how to ask for directions, and how to answer when asked for directions in German. We advise you to learn all these phrases and structures by heart.
Finally, there are a few sample dialogues, which will give you more confidence in using the terms and phrases you just learned. And if you feel like practicing what you just learned, you can download the attached worksheet.

Wegbeschreibung ->>Giving the Directions.

Links ->left. Rechts ->right. geradeaus->straight.

Gehen sie garadeaus ->>go straight ahead/ keep staright on.


Biegen sie links ab / Fahren sie nach links ->>turn left
Gehen sie links in die GeothestraBe! ->>turn left into GeothestraBe.

Biegen sie rechts ab /Fahren sie Nach Rechts ->turn right.
Gehen sie Rechts in die SchillerstraBe! ->turn right into SchillerstraB.

Gehen Sie bis zur kreuzung! ->walkdown to intersection.

Gehen sie an der Kirche Vorbei!. passby the church.

Gehen/Nehmen Sie die Zweite StraBe Links. take the second street on the left.
Gehen/Nehmen Sie die Zweite/dritte/vierte StraBe rechts . take the second street on the right.

uberqueren sie an der ampel! -> cross the street at traffic light.

Gehen sie die StraBe entlang! -> walk along the street.

Gehen sie die erste ausfahrt im kreisverkehr ->take the first exist on the roundabout

die kirche ist an der ECKE./ the church is on the corner.

Die Bank ist dem Rathaus gegenuber.



Nehmen sie am besten die u-bahn order den bus. the best would be to take the bus /u-bahn

die ampel ->traffic light
der Kreisverkehr. ->roundabout.
gegenuber -> opposite

Thank you. I just want to point out a small inaccuracy in the translation. When one uses the word opposite in English the correct way is to say is "opposite TO...". Because such things are opposite TO one another.

For example, at 8:20 the correct translation would be "Yes, (the restaurant) it is opposite TO the church".
