There were no pencils in that era. Artists like Da Vinci and Michaelangelo drew directly using quill ink pen. That's why they have to observe an object clearly and then simplify its shape. This is the same as the drawing method used by legendary artist Kim Jung Gi.

Fillipo Brunelleschi was also something amazing, what always amazes me is that normally they weren't just painters, many were sculptors, architects and inventor's.

He was soo poor, his name "paolo uccello" It's a name made by a fact of his life, paolo uccello in italian means litterally "paolo bird" ; he loved soo much animals, particularly birds, but he was soo poor that he couldn't afford any of them so he has drawn a lot of naturalistic pictures about them. He lived when the prospective actually was spreading at its maximum speed, we have ancients text that talk about him drawing utilizing prospective for hours until night when his wife would call him to sleep he often said to her "prospective how delightful this invention is, so beautiful" And something like that

I'm taking a Graphic Arts and Printing course and I wish we did this. It would be a huge pain in the neck but it would really be useful in the long run and would probably make my life easier.
