Sweetwater's Mitch Gallagher presents two compact audio interfaces from Focusrite. The Focusrite Scarlett series of audio interfaces offer solutions for everyone from solo singer/songwriters to professional studios. Compact, portable interfaces with only a channel or two — like the Focusrite Scarlett Solo and Scarlett 2i2 — are ideal for solo musicians to write and record their music.

Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen USB Audio Interface
It's so easy to make music with Focusrite's Scarlett Solo 3rd Gen USB audio interface! Ideal for the singer-songwriter, the 3rd generation Scarlett Solo sports the legendary Focusrite preamp as well as a crystal-clear DI for your guitar, bass, or keys. Focusrite's unique gain halos make it easy to control your levels, while the headphone jack, Direct Monitor switch, and large volume dial make monitoring a breeze. For this third-generation Scarlett Solo, Focusrite has not only raised the bar with vanishingly low latency, 192kHz sample rates, optimized preamp gain structure, and an instrument input that handles scorching hot pickups; they also included the acclaimed Air circuit that models their legendary ISA console transformer to give your voice and instrument recordings a brighter, more open sound. The Scarlett Solo G3 delivers the pro-quality sound you need — at a price you'll love. Plug in, fire up the bundled software, and you're ready to rock.

Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen USB Audio Interface
The third-generation Scarlett 2i2 advances the state-of-the-art in USB audio interfaces with two upgraded Scarlett mic preamps, high-performance 24-bit/192kHz AD/DA converters, optimized preamp gain structure, vanishingly low latency, and instrument inputs that handle scorching hot pickups. The mic preamps on the 2i2 G3 now feature Focusrite’s acclaimed Air mode that provides the coveted Air effect modeled on the company's legendary ISA console transformers to give your voice and instrument recordings a brighter, more open sound. Ideal for the small project studio or mobile rig, the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 G3 runs on USB bus power and sports two mic/line/instrument inputs allowing simultaneous recording and playback of up to two channels with independently controllable headphone and monitor outputs. Fire up the bundled software, and you're ready to rock.

I have the 2i2 and it sounds GREAT!!! If you can't get great recordings from these inexpensive boxes, then you just have to keep working on your sound because it's NOT your equipment! Love Scarlett!

Great helpful video and comments below thank you! I'm trying to decide if I should go with the 2i2 or solo. Im not a musician its purely for voiceover. Is the solo 3rd gen and 2i2 3rd gen exactly the same except for plugging in an extra microphone? Theres a £40 difference but I wonder whether its worth going with the 2i2 just incase one broke... not sure how common that is, or if I do decide to do a voiceover with another vo artist, although they'd have to supply there own microphone. What do people use the 2i2 for if there are two musicians singing and playing instruments? Thank you!

Nice, but I'm a little disappointed they decided to go with buttons instead of switches. I love the feel of the click on my 2i2 when I switch modes.

Can I skip the USB and use the stereo outputs to go directly into the 3.5mm mic jack at the back of my motherboard somehow?

If I only intend to use one mic (wanting one of these for voiceover) via XLR cable, is there any reason to get the 2i2 over the Solo? Other than having a second XLR input is there any major differences between them?
