Had the same issue after a pothole. Then heard the same from many. I replaced the broken small plastic piece on the mount and stopped using that light. I believe that plastic meant to break for example in a case of a crash. If it doesn’t, then the unit will break itself (as it happened to me another time - fortunately found the broken pieces of the unit and superglue fixed the problem)

I lost my garmin during a hard ride out in Kendale Lakes, back in 2021, that was my third Garmin since road cycling since 2011. I have been using a Leyzne computer I pick up at Mack Cycle. Solid twist lock mount by far ! Gravel tested, Road tested and currently is my MTB and Gravel bike computer. Picked up a used Garmin 810 for just my road bike . Feels good to be back again with Garmin . Better metrics and better Garmin connect app. Hope I don’t lose it no factor loop hole for any tether.

As I've mentioned on your previous review on the FR160, I have replaced the plastic mount clip 3 times. The manufacturing has a really bad tolerance as the vibration eventually chips and cracks the mount.

It's great if you just want to mount it underneath but not with a bigger gps on top.

Never seen that Garmin mount before. When you rode PBP did you have a leash for your 1040?

My garmin came with a leash. Surprised yours didn't. Mine is a 530

This is why I will never ever mount my expensive cell phone to a bike. Youtube keeps sending me ads for expensive mounts. Nope! No way, Jorge! Love my Wahoo Elemnt, but my 'life" doesn't disappear if it's lost or broken.

I bought this light but going to mount it under my mount using the top mount on the light hopefully less weight on the top.. my computers only a bolt so on my other bikes I have the k edge mount which should hold both devices fingers crossed.. hmm or am I best to return it and stick with my exposure light.. Pete 🚴🏻👍🚴‍♀️

That's a weird mount, did it come standard with 1040? The regular twist to lock is as robust as they get and it could have sustained the increased weight better. Since Garmin offer their battery pack as an add-on that hangs underneath the mount can you no mount this light upside down?

Too much weight. I’ve had better luck with just the 10 series Garmin, or a smaller 540 with the 160 light.

got rid of the computer and mount. it's so much cleaner and less distracting. when wanting a bit of telemetry, i wear gps running watch.

Yeah that double up mount has way too many areas of stress. You have those tabs under massive load. But I’ve never
Been sold on the Garmin design, hopefully we see some improvements, back on the day all mounts were extremely secure. You think after 35 years the industry would have had experience with anything you attach to your bars. 🤔

Garmin, good products until they break then usually good customer service...it's the wait time in between that sucks.`

The Garmin mount could not handle it If you mount them both on top of each other - Happened to me. So, what I did is I mounted them separately and problem gone!
