Watch this swarm of octopuses devour a dead whale — and listen to the scientists flip out over it.

In US news and current events today, a group of scientists aboard the deep-sea exploration vessel Nautilus discovered a whale fall site on the seafloor that turned into a feeding site for octopuses and more strange animals. You'd have to watch National Geographic or Blue Planet to see some freaky feasts like this. The weird animals seen eating here are the result of a baleen whale dying and falling to the seafloor (aka whale fall). It's not unusual then to see bizarre animals like worms and octopus eating the whale carcass.

There's really nothing i find more heartwarming than humans with a rich knowledge of the world pointing it out to each other and smiling.

Love how many people don't know that scientists are usually like this irl, not the way they're portrayed in documentaries

Scientists in documentaries: Explains complicated in depth topics on the spot with not even a bit of excitement in their voice

Actual scientists: "WOOO YEAH BABY THATS WHAT WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR WOOOO!"

“Whoa” “wooowww”” “ahhhh” . One lady said “dinner is served” IM SCREAMING . They all sound like they are voicing over the octopuses reaction to having food . This is really incredible though .

If you watch this listening to their voices like they are the octopus’s voices, it’s so much better

Man if some documentary is made with scientists being just themselves while still sounding smart, like this one I'd watch it and even learn something ngl

The one female voice sounds like she is a 7 year little girl, then she says bacterial matter and Osedex, confirming she is a grown woman.

I was mildly interested when I clicked on this video. Their enthusiasm is incredible. I got really sucked into the video and by the end, I was just as excited as they were! This was really cool to watch.
