Solo Atlantic Crossing on a WHARRAM

(Edit: I never expected this many views, and so much love and support for this video, and my lifestyle. Thank you all. However, I feel it's important to note now that I did not create these to be "YouTube videos," or to monetize in any way. I simply uploaded them to YouTube in order to share them more easily with friends and family. So I can't say there's another one in the pipeline yet, but hopefully I'll be inspired to make more soon :) Also worth noting - Mara Noka and I have completed another North Atlantic crossing with @womenthewind4226, we filmed the whole thing, and we are now in the process of putting together a documentary (2023). Love you all!)

Instead of writing about this voyage, as I was already far behind in publishing stories anyways, I decided to document the trip on my iPhone SE (with no case and a cracked screen – we made it). This is a very long, boring, scenic video of my solo E to W Atlantic Crossing in 2020, escaping from Spanish lockdown to be closer to my family near the Caribbean.

Dear Kiana, this was such an entertaining, interesting, beautiful, and captivating video. And I really liked the sounds. From the wonderful worldly style music to the sounds of the ocean. I feel like I got to go on this adventure with you. I would give anything on earth if I only could have. But then I wouldn't want throw off or impose on your peace of mind in solitude on your journey. I grew up in a sailing family as a young boy, and my father was a boat designer and builder of catamarans, and so when I stumbled on this video, it caught my eye. All these years and I never knew about Mr. Wharram's interesting life and quest to explore catamaran design and sailing adventures. The wharram's seem a lot slower than what I'm used to, but there are many things about them that are undeniably good. The first thing I noticed is the simplicity, balance, and the strength of the construction and rigging. The next is how functional, comfortable, and nice the interior space is. Then for it's length there is relatively very little structure above deck, which comes in handy when you don't want a lot of windage creating unnecessary drag slowing you down or blowing you off the heading that you want to keep. And the general design of the boat seems very sea worthy with the double ended hulls, it fits in nicely to the swells. I notice that you have many ocean sailing skills that seem to be instinctual like you may have spent some time sailing as you grew up. You seem to have a sixth sense about how to do what's right, safe, and pleasant. Just keep your eye out for harsh weather, high seas, and shallower oceans and coastlines where rogue waves might break. You seem to have every angle covered. I'm looking forward to seeing your next adventure. And above all you are one of the most beautiful women that I have ever seen in my entire life. Happy sails to you.

This is one of the most delightfully understated sagas I've ever seen. You just hit the gas and flogged it across with an Iphone and a Garmin.. And that motor, you whipped it around like you were swinging a cat. And the music is superb. This is not your first rodeo.

Many details were left unaddressed. That's how it is in a dream. You may have inaugurated a new form of journalism.

if this was a painting, it'd be a Rembrandt. if a sculpture, a Michelangelo. If a flying machine, A Leonardo da Vinci. But its a sailing vid. A Weltzien. Brillant beyond words. Thank you for posting. there's such a thing as hidden art ...that only a few see. true grace doesn't usually attract a big following.

One of the best travel videos I've seen on YouTube. Very heart touching and inspiring. A perfect illustration that you don't need a fancy boat to go on an adventure, nor an expensive camera to make a great movie about it.

I think James and Hanneke would be proud. So much of the Wharram philosophy toward sailing is evident here, working with the sea instead of against it. Lovely video, safe travels for the future.

So many comments and nice words… hard to find new ones. Sailing for over 43 years now and watching many YouTube sailors single or not NEVER till now was I captivated as much. You, your boat, your music, you eye to video things the right way… AMAZING.

Gotta be one of the BEST you tube videos ever -- This is a REAL HONEST OPEN OCEAN ADVETURE -- shown to the World by a down to earth wonderful woman who exudes courage, confidence and a warmth second to none. Well done Kiana and may you continue to show us much more of your travels. You are fantastic and SO different from the norm -- beautiful Wharram proves itself to be a very capable platform for open ocean sailing and you nailed it ! ! ! ! All the best - --

Dear Kiana, Years ago, I watched a documentary about surfing, The Endless Summer. It enticed me to surf the western US and Mexico for years. Had I seen this video back then, I would have sailed. What an extraordinary journey. What an extraordinary woman. Thank you for recording this.

This is the most pure adventure i have ever seen on youtube. So free and un-cluttered. Truly inspiring. I absolutely love the music, but mostly the simpleness of your boat. Its not about what you have, its what you do with it.

Speechless. Like a step back in time to purity and honesty. Old wood, worn canvas and the most incredible oceanic meander where the journey is all that matters. Breath. Taken. Mind. Inspired. Thank you

This is the kind of content we really want to see. It’s so joyful and authentic. I’d love to see more about your boat and your journey. Would be awesome if you’d reconsider and make more videos

Brave girl. A big lesson to all those waiting until they can get the "perfect" boat.

All of my life I've always done what others have wanted me to do. I've always wanted to do this since I was a young man. Your video brought tears to my eyes and now I hope to find a boat soon. I don't know if I could do that but I want to be on the water doing what I want to do for sure. Congratulations.
