If you need a life coach….. do yourself a favor and just go get a therapist.

“Life coaches” are so unregulated it’s a joke. One person I know just “decided” they were going to become a life coach. They were the most emotionally unstable person I know.

She was an older lady, around her mid-50’s, who was dealing with a divorce, apparently sleeping around with random dudes she would find on the street at her friend’s house after she was allowed to stay there temporarily because she was now homeless, drinking her life away, chronically unemployed, and crying every night. Believe me, the advice she gives is destructive and bad behavior. The fact that she can bs her way to become a life coach means nobody should trust a life coach unless they can prove themselves.

Social media has brought out the worst in people. This situation is a direct consequence of the “Utah valley mentality “ There is a combination of gross naivety, willful gullibility, and a condescending hubris that is endemic to Utah in general and Provo specifically. This particular case spotlights the magnitude of male self-loathing and the elevation of the “virtuous woman” that is a cultural staple in Utah. Men are beaten into submission by a society that makes this self-loathing a subconscious attribute. I have lived here for 7 years now. Its weird…very weird. The Franke’s are all complacent in the destruction of children’s lives.

I'm a retired mental health professional and, when I was working, I carried the highest state and national credentials that were available in my field. But _life coaches?_ Come on, gimme a break. Licensing? Certification? Life coaching is not a profession. There are no college degrees, no curriculum, no established standards, no field of research, no nothin' We might as well require a license to be a cowboy. Coming up with licensing standards would be like trying to lasso smoke.

Tell you what might work for purposes: Require life coached to get a signed waiver from every client acknowledging that life coaches are mot regulated, are nor part of the professional mental health network, and that mental health professionals working in the field do so without the official oversight required of other mental health professions. and may (in some states) be prohibited from claiming certain technical credentials. It should be clearly stated that, despite any degrees or certifications, a life coach is not a professional mental health worker.

It's sad that people will trust a 'life coach' rather than go to their bank and talk to one of their licensed financial advisors.

GODCORP, "We made the Church Itself into a MoNey CHANGERRRR!"
I remember when Pastors, Preachers, Priests and Deacons were life coaches. Now they are just CEO's of GodCorp.

It is curious how you covered this case without mentioning the role of the mormon church even once. Mormonstories podcast, here on youtube, covered this case in great detail. This rabbit hole goes crazy deep for those who are interested.

Demonetized is different than suppressed. If you wanted to, you could make a video detailing the horrible things that's happened. You just wouldn't make any money.

Yeah well, when you're brought up in a cult, it's no surprise when you become a cult leader yourself.

it seems clear enough, 1:1 or business:1 consultancy should require regulations, perhaps the same professional standards could then be applied to HR workers, it's a worrying state of affairs and I'm sure hard to regulate but can easily be legislated and litigated
