On a normal July 4 holiday weekend, there would be full planes and jammed roads, but not this year. So what does flying look like during the coronavirus pandemic? CBS transportation correspondent Kris Van Cleave finds out.

Each weekday morning, "CBS This Morning" co-hosts Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil deliver two hours of original reporting, breaking news and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs. The broadcast has earned a prestigious Peabody Award, a Polk Award, four News & Documentary Emmys, three Daytime Emmys and the 2017 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast. The broadcast was also honored with an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award as part of CBS News division-wide coverage of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Check local listings for "CBS This Morning" broadcast times.

This is so far from the truth. I've been flying in the past two months, and the only requirement is to wear a face mask. Seating arrangements are the same. I even got an email asking if I could change my flight day because the plane was full. When I got there I asked if I could get another seat and the flight attendant told me there were no seats left. I saw the seat map and the flight was COMPLETELY full.

The year has been easier on us introverts. Keeping to ourselves is our nature so social distancing is instinctive.

every flight I've been on in the past 2 months has been full... only requirement is to wear a mask (except when eating or drinking). they don't ask if you have symptoms or check temperature... no 6-feet distancing during boarding or de-boarding. doesn't seem like most airlines care much about safety unfortunately.

Lies. Airlines have cut back on flights, making flights to your preferred destination limited. Meaning the flights are completely full, all of the flights I’ve been on personally have been full. (I flew between mid March and June going through Charlotte airport and Austin airport) Few people wear mask. Flights still board the same (1st class/military first, etc.) There was no temperature check either.

I call shenanigans. Last flight i was on was a month ago and we were packed in like sardines. "Required to wear face mask to facilitate social distancing." If they really wanted to facilitate, the plane would have been less crowded.

Middle seat empty
Still less than 6 ft
Also people in front of you and behind you

Hey, Josh Earnest, when your head is 15 inches away from a completely stranger's, blocking the middle seat is NOT a "PR strategy", it is safety

"We tried to eliminate anything that would pass germs, basically."

The "CBS THIS MORNING" banner at the bottom takes up 25% of the entire screen - is that really necessary?

blocking the middle seat is a PR strategy - he's right. you are still not nearly far enough because of an empty seat.

2020 is the year of road trips for me because I refuse to sit on a plane right now. I just got back from one trip and yes its longer by road but I was able to bring more stuff home from visiting my parents too and even along the stop and appreciate the beauty of different parts of the country.

This is NOT true. I flew from Midway on Thursday, July 2nd, and not only were these guidelines not being followed but also no one at the airport was advising flyers to cover up -much less enforcing anything. There were scores of people cramming into stores, the bar stools were not following any social distancing and to top it off the security check-in workers were not even in the least polite. I would've stayed home if I had known this carelessness was going on. On the flip side, Southwest was great in all regards when it came to the plane's cleanliness, procedures, and practices and that lessened our levels of stress.

Planes should’ve always been boarded back to front. It’s more orderly. First class can relax and board last to avoid all those passengers bumping into elbows.

There’s nothing normal about any of this

Flew last week twice. Pretty chill. Sit where you want and my own row. But we got squat for food and drink. Just water and a bag of chips. No coffee and Couldn't even pay for real drinks.
