Every time I hear them say “manifest, ” all I can think of is exorcists talking about demons manifesting during exorcisms.

Why don't they manifest themselves a life.

I tried a similar manifestation method earlier. I stood in front of a mirror and said Candyman 3 times. Now I’m dead. Thanks a lot TikTok.

I had a student two years ago tell me that she could manifest herself into any reality and manifest her favorite anime characters to help her. This student was actively crying about the classroom being too loud, went by they/them pronouns, and wanted us to call her “Coffee”. I don’t think the manifesting worked

I'm a Christian. The funny (and I don't mean haha) thing about calling it manifestation is that this is literally witchcraft. I was Wiccan many years before becoming a believer, and the way spells work is, you call on demons to accomplish your goals. And this whole process involves, among other random things, chanting. They're literally calling demons to manifest. And I don't know if Matt wants to take it that far, but this is utterly terrifying.

I support dumb trends because they let me tell whether someone is dumb easily by looking at whether they follow dumb trends.

This is just witchcraft with fewer trinkets.

In its original concept, "manifesting" was the idea that by focusing your mind on your goals, it'll subconsciously steer your daily decisions & actions towards those goals. I.e. I'm "manifesting" myself as stronger & fitter than I am now. So at lunch I remember this and make better meal choices, etc...

I purposefully lost like 20-30 pounds because i was somewhat overweight. It took a lot of self control, researching, discipline, etc. When my roommate's gf, who is an "intuitive medium" for a living said "oh you manifested it!", i was like uhmm no i actually had to put effort into this

I’ve never been more convinced that having some kind of belief in a higher power is fundamental to human nature and that a permanently secular society is impossible

LMAO this was a book/movie called "The Secret" a long-ass time ago, and it talked about the 'Law of Attraction' which is basically "manifesting." My mom buys into spiritual stuff easily and she got the book for both me and my brother. It talked about "When you are thinking about the big house you want, think in your head, 'I will have that big house, ' and do not think things like, 'I don't want a bad house, ' because the universe will ignore the word 'not' because it's negative energy."

My brother and I were like... 'wtf is this book on about?" Lol Dave Chappelle did a bit on it too. "Go to Africa. 'Hey guy, why are you so sad?' 'I have not eaten in 3 days.' 'Well, you just need to start thinking positive! Think about some roasted onions and carrots and maybe they'll come to you!'"

3 years ago, before it was a trend, my ex wife started manifesting. She manifested herself from successful beautician, to homeless, and now in jail. I can attest to the stupidity of it.

Damn it Matt, you didn’t say “I am sure every tic toker will float off into space” 10 times.

This is an old trend. I remember a few months ago a friend kept talking about “manifesting” a better life but took no steps to make it better. I just kinda smiled and waved.

Manifesting works when I go to a restaurant. I mumble the foods I want to eat, and sometime later the food is brought to my table.

It’s a new twist on “positivity” it’s only a trend and will be gone next year. Nothing to get worked up over.

10-15 years ago, during the Dawkins/Hitchens era, I actually believed that society would become more rational as it became less religious.

I was utterly wrong.
