The antenna hole is right in the center, not around where you put the foil. Put some thin lengths of copper wire in the middle holes you get full speed.

Hint: The antenna is the conductor in the middle of the connector. Not the ground shield on the outside.

Be careful, some wifi cards and other equipment require the antenna to be plugged in, due to needing the impedance in the circuit.

If you bend aluminum foil aroud the SMA-RP connector you only connect it to the ground, the external of aluminum foil. IF it may ever worked, probably you took also the center pin of the connector, shorting your "live", the center pin, to the shield, the ground. IF it worked anyhow, it worked just because of the short. Luckly it may had propagated RF through the rest of the foil, but i think your RF finals of the wifi card are not happy. Even with few mW, they will cook themself.

You can use foil or aluminum cans to make the wifi signal stronger. Idk how or why this works but it does. When i was younger in the xbox 360 days we would do this to boost bad lag in halo or cod. Would go from red/yellow connection to 3 bars almost every time. Was truly a game changer
