In the U.S., we don’t have the Hilux, we have the Toyota Tacoma but I feel like both the Toyota and the Ford are really good trucks.

They’re both good. Here in Argentina both models are being produced. But the maintenance costs on the hilux are significantly lower. Another thing to point out is the build quality, and reliability on long term use, which favors the Toyota by a huge margin.
If you’re going to use them as family oriented daily drivers (as we use them here), they’re both great.
I’d take the Toyota over the Ford just because of resale value.

I've owned two Rangers and am currently on a Hilux. Objectively speaking and without resorting to schoolyard arguments like "Ford is shit" etc... They are both good trucks. There's a reason there are so many around. They are both superior work vehicles compared to the pavement princess Amarok and Mercedes pickups that grab the headlines for power outputs but which aren't as rugged commercially or in off road situations.

I really liked my Rangers. The old 3.2 five pot. Lots of character to the engine. Pulled well. Better than my 3.0 Hilux on highway. But in just about every other way the Hilux is better. In 40k miles my Ranger needed a new transfer case, front diff seal, crank seal and the engine had a weird hesitation which even Ford couldn't diagnose. The Hilux just ticked over 40k (same model the Top Gear guys took to the North Pole) and literally everything works on it. No faults, and that's with off road use and carrying railway sleepers. It'll take some abuse for sure.
