We all know that Sony's PlayStation 5 has been trying to block the Xbox Activision Blizzard deal for the last several months. Especially since they're scared of Call of Duty leaving the PS5 platform.

Microsoft it seems is fighting back in a huge way by attacking the CMA and Sony for making false claims and crying about console competition. There's a lot of back and forth regarding the Xbox Series X and the PS5.

Could we see Microsoft finally take down Sony PlayStation when it comes to the PS5 VS Xbox Series X competition? This next console generation is going to be the most competitive one we've ever seen between Xbox & PS5.

It's just incredible to me that the CMA has taken this stance. They are literally saying "If MS does what Sony has been doing for decades, and is currently doing right now, then that could hurt Sony, and we just can't have that."

Fact that the CMA said the Switch doesn’t count because it’s a family friendly system baffles me. So I guess all the Japanese games and GTA being on Switch shouldn’t be having the M rating then.

FYI, the CMA has ZERO authority to block the deal. Only reason the Facebook/Meta thing happened is because they agreed to the demands.

I wrote this to CMA:

Microsoft SHOULD be allowed to buy Activision, and my reasoning follows.

I have kept up to date with the points and counterpoints being publically bandied back and forth. The primary concern for UK regulator seems to be attached to the subscription service issue. I have owned both PlayStation and xbox consoles during my time gaming. I know this space very well. If Sony considered subscription services a terribly important category/mode of purchase, they would offer their first party games day and date as Microsoft does. Their refusal to do so shows a couple things:
1. They feel they can make more money by not allowing their customers more purchasing power in the form of options
2. They are not threatened by Microsofts Gamepass service

Should their calculus change and they go to a day and date Gamepass model, their subscription service would in a matter of months jump past Gamepass. Their first party exclusives are hugely popular.

It is unreasonable for UK govt. to claim that Gamepass will dominate the market, when the market leader (Sony is the market leader whether you admit it or not) has to date, refused to even attempt to prioritize this purchase option. After Microsoft purchases Activision, Sony will recalculate and perhaps decide to compete with their titles going day and date, giving PlayStation gamers an amazing opportunity to have a new purchase option.

THAT is the essence of competition.

Sony can't compete. They know they can't compete. They can't sustain their console business unless they are top. We see how quick they almost bellied up with the failure of the ps3

If Microsofts can get Activision and somehow get call of Duty on Nintendo and on Steamdeck and other platforms then people who were against it have gotta admit that blocking the deal was one of the most anti-consumer things the CMA has ever done in history. Xbox has already said that Call of Duty is just one of those games that is meant to be multiplat. Microsoft loves making money, so why wouldn't they push for it to be on other platforms besides playstation and xbox?
