Medications have changed our little boy’s life. He is thriving!

Thank you for putting this out there! My boy is finally beginning to thrive! he has friends he can keep, he has interests he can sustain, complete pet projects like getting a D&D campaign written and then DM it for his friends... HE notices the difference and he likes that he can have more meaningful social interactions... always been bright and ignored by school because of that... but his social lagging which was beginning to cause depression was ignored, the fact that he couldn't organize projects well and hand them in resulting in poor grades, not addressed. Proper medication treatment has been an awesome addition to his life plan. The ADHD iceberg highlights this perfectly!

Yes! My son started medication a month and a half ago and is no longer impulsively running away from us on hikes or through the parking lot. He is able to drop into a flow state, read, and play imaginatively in a way that he never was able to before. He is able to enjoy social relationships. The perseveration before completely impacted how much he was able to enjoy his day.

Meds are working for us with school. Our boy could only do about a hour of Kindy before the teacher called us to pick him up. When school started this year he could do about the same so we tried meds. The school worked with us and increased school hours as he adjusted. Next year we are looking at full school days. We also have started using melatonin to help him sleep.

Both of my boys have been thriving in school since being started on meds a few years ago. After starting my youngest on his meds in Kindergarten - I picked him up and he was so excited "Thank you mommy for my focus medicine" because he was no longer getting behavior reports sent home each day!

Sadly no medication seems to be a benefit to our son. We have tried many over the last three years and at different dosage levels. The fact that this might lead to addiction is frightening!

What if a child is only 5 years old and no mental health facility will help?

I am worried about stimulants and the risk of cardiomyopathy and neurotoxicity.
