Bob you helped me through Tulsa Welding in Houston and you still helping me after school. Thanks a lot Bob. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the concerns about the smoke plume and the risks. I'm mindful and aware of the hazards and we use vents in our shop. However it messes with the audio while filming so I held my breath? Kinda? We should have explained that in the introduction but failed to. Thanks for pointing it out. Good discussion for other videos.

It is so nice to see a welding teacher that knows what he is doing. I go to a technical college in Georgia and it is a joke. Wish I lived in Kansas would love to work with someone with so much knowledge.

A little late finding you but your information is right on time, I just got a small 20 gal. stainless tank from a friend and wanted to make a shop stove heater with it, not being sure if I could weld a carbon steel exhaust pipe on it I searched for information about it, thank you for this video, it answered my questions

what happens if you weld with a stick intended for carbon steel or a stainless stick? will that still weld carbon steel and stainless steel?

6:08 "That's a _large_ no-no" 😂 I'm stealing that saying and using that. It cracked me up.
Also this video was really helpful, thanks Bob and crew!

Thanks for this video Bob! I’m looking to weld a 1” stainless plate on the head of a custom made post driver that is made from steel to strengthen it against warping. I found this helpful!

i would like to see a welding fumes extractor. Chromium in the rod cause cancer. As a old experimented welder, you must have to be an exemple for all of us. thanks for all your videos.

5:15 - That's some smooth Stick. Always keep the same angle, like it was on a Turntable.

Just some added info that I found while researching what arc rods were needed to weld 316 to carbon steel. Some 308L applications may be substituted with 309L filler metal, but 316L or 316 applications generally require molybdenum and 309L contains no molybdenum. E309LMo-16 has a nominal composition (wt.-%) of 23.5 Cr, 13 Ni, a maximum allowable carbon content of 0.04, and a small addition of molybdenum. So if you are welding 316 to carbon steel you need to buy E309LMO.16 welding rods.

That looks really neat!!! After many years of just Tig welding stainless I got a tiny stick-tig welder and been trying out stick welding with stainless 3/32 rod with 308L-16 and soon will try 309L, .. it's really cool to be able to put together different alloys and that the visual outcome is nice and smooth. Dragging the puddle seems to work way better than what I was trying by pushing it (used to the Tig style). Thank you so much for the

Nice thanks for the tips, I’m self taught stick welder and can lay some pretty good welds but very ignorant of correct methods. I actually like stainless except for the restart ! I did a stainless to carbon on a load bearing item on my land cruiser lasted for a long time but cracked and broke in the middle of Oz, found a real welder who said the weld looked ok but likely I used the wrong alloy, it was a stainless rod but anyway thanks heaps

Yup was looking for a cheap n quick way to patch cattle waterers where the heater electrode underneath had oxidized and cracked the stainless bowl, just need to put in 6" square patches to close out the winter season.

Nice demo. Being retired from the heavy equip repair trade all my life I have almost from day one of welding used my Bernard twist lock holder on a lighter 10' whip line that can be attached to the main heavier welding cable very quickly. More maneuverability, less weight fatigue and you can bend the rod in position with a better grip. Even have a regular small clamp style whip for ease of welding. Never see any weld videos showing this but I know most everyone in the field has one. Any thoughts? May make a good option to show to new welders. Thanks Ed K. Cleve. Oh.

Can you do a video on how to (properly) stick welding on galvanized (sheet) steel?

I would like to see any restaurant equipment welded up. Like table or sink? Not sure what kind of stainless most use. But, I want to weld a table at work.
