I like how Rose tries to explain to Trudy that it was an accident. Good way to show the way abused woman covered up for their abusers back then and can even apply now.

This scene is made better when you know that the table flip wasn't in the script an Billy Zane improvised the whole thing.

The true relationship in this movie was the almost sisterly relationship between Trudy and Rose, in the deleted "Trapped" scene, Rose calls out for Trudy when she is feeling absolutely cornered. I just think it was a nice detail to show that Rose was different, and didn't treat people like the way she was brought up to treat them.

Billy’s performance was outstanding, he acted so much like a controlling fiancé and he trusted himself and Kate to get the perfect scene in one take, so he flipped the table

As someone who has survived this kind of abuse, I can vouch for Rose trying to make excuses and salvage the mess Cal made. Trudy was wonderful in comforting her. No man should ever think he has the right to act this way.

look at the detail of imagery in this scene, Rose stands up to Cal finally & he shatters the table & all the glass in retaliation. It shocks her & you can see it translated on her face as she realizes this is what her life will be like. Trudy clutches the rose in her hand and doesn't pick anything else up, this is supposed to symbolise everything around Rose is shattering but she can still be saved. She has a small window of time to change her future.

I watched this as a kid and this scene scared me. So sudden and aggressive and seeing her collapse afterwards whilst trying to maintain to the maid 'everything's ok it was an accident'had me stunned into silence because I wasn't used to fiances, let alone adults talking to each other like that. I am still touched by the maid "it's alright miss"
It's like she's seen this before and knows how to comfort the woman in a domestic situation?

the fact that Billy Zane actually improvise the scene makes it much more enjoyable
