Back in the 70's I bought calico fabrics wherever I found it and chose color combinations to make designs on the quilt. I ripped the fabric in 5 inch squares after measuring and clipping the edge. Real calico is all cotton and rips straight. I then sewed squares with half inch hems in strips and then sewed the strips together. I stuffed the quilts with Mountain Mist and held the top to the bottom with a stitch and tie of rug yarn to keep stuffing in place while washing. Where the rug yarn is tied will also make a pattern. Great baby quilts and gifts. The king size quilt was hard to handle.
