Apparently that family lost the father and four children between January 4 and January 8 of 1854. The youngest, Melvin, was only 4 the brothers in their 20s and one in his 30s. The father, Hugh, was the last to die on January 8th. I wonder what happened? The mother lived another 21 years after losing her whole family. Times were really tough back then.

I see a lot of root exposure on the high ground so there might have been a big flood in the past, and washed away some stones and memorials. That bird might have been a loon, or a bird in the loon family because it's so loud. Second guess would be a mockingbird. I heard that bang. Looks like it would be a spooky place to pitch a tent and spend a moonless night. All those trees probably grew long after the burials occurred. When you are dead, no one alive remembers you, and your monument is either missing or unreadable, you are truly no longer of this earth.

The small rectangular stones with initials on them are foot stones for the grave.
