Guatemala: Under the Mayan Sky | Deadliest Journeys

Known for the beauty of its active volcanoes and its turquoise lakes, Guatemala is going through an endless economic crisis, making the country one of the poorest in Latin America. Whether urban or rural, all populations are affected and rely on their courage or the Mayan gods they worship. Tomas, a shaman, takes his apprentice on a pilgrimage in the footsteps of his Mayan ancestors to the city "El Mirador", one of the most inaccessible on the continent. To earn a living, Anthony drives a taxi in a tuktuk. Faced with competition from urban areas, he decided to tackle mountain roads where only 4X4s usually venture.

Broke my heart when Anthony embrace his mom and sis and told her he wouldn’t leave them like their father did.

One of the coolest guys I’ve ever met, built like a brick chithouse, was from Guatemala. Eric Rodriquez, barely new English when he and is wife Maria moved to St Louis. After a few years I learned SO much about their ancient history and modern hardships. Could outwork anyone, and with a smile too

This documentary isn’t all about the most dangerous roads, it’s about the daily struggle people go through in order to have a decent life. The diverse culture, religions, beliefs and social and economic activities of different people is also well documented here. Awesome job and thanks for enlightening us and taking us where we haven’t been yet. 🇰🇪❤️

Whenever there is a Deadliest Roads documentry, there will be an old Toyota Hilux or Toyota Landcruiser present in the scene. These vehicles are a staple of the channel.
